Issued for Interns was built by Canadian architect candidates who went through the ExAC, passed, and then spent the next few months building what they had wanted on the way in.
Why we built this
When we were preparing for the ExAC, the study materials were fragmented. The CACB provides a reading list, but no single resource brought it together in a way that reflected how the exam actually tests you. Forum posts were inconsistent. Existing textbooks were written for different licensing systems. What was missing was something written specifically for the Canadian exam — accurate, up to date, and organized around the 13 official ExAC themes.
So we built it ourselves. We worked through every theme, cross-referenced the source materials the CACB points to, and wrote questions that mirror the style and difficulty of the real exam. When we passed, we kept going — turning our notes into the guide you're reading about now.
What the guide covers
The ExAC Study Guide is a complete exam preparation resource for all four ExAC sections. It covers every theme the CACB tests, from the National Building Code of Canada (2020) and NECB to the full suite of CCDC documents, CHOP 2020, RAIC Document 6, and project management and professional practice.
